About the Artist
Britta Marakatt-Labba (born 1951 in Idivuoma) is one of the most prominent artists in Sápmi. Working primarily with needle and thread, she creates powerful narratives rooted in Sámi history, religion, and everyday life, drawing on an Indigenous perspective and her upbringing in a reindeer-herding family. Her textile art is both poetic and political, with embroidery as her primary medium.
Historjá – Shown in Bodø for the First Time
The monumental 24-metre-long embroidery Historjá is a key work in Marakatt-Labba’s artistic practice. Before the work returns to its permanent home at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, it is presented at the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum in Bodø – for the very first time.
Exhibition period: 30 April – 16 August 2026
