About the event

For the first time, Britta Marakatt-Labba’s 24-meter-long embroidery Historjá is shown in Bodø. This monumental work conveys Sámi history through the artist’s rich, detailed, and distinctive visual language. At the same time, melanie bonajo’s (they/them) exhibition When the Body Says Yes opens, featuring three video installations that explore the body, intimacy, and belonging in a digital age.

We open our doors for an evening filled with art, community, and celebration. Both artists, Britta Marakatt-Labba and melanie bonajo, will be present.

Admission is free, and the museum café will be open.

OPENING PROGRAM

17:00 – Preview of When the Body Says Yes
Be among the first to experience the exhibition, with a guided tour and conversation featuring artist melanie bonajo and curator Liv Brissach.

18:00 – Presentation by Britta Marakatt-Labba
Location: The museum’s main hall

19:00 – Doors open. The artists are present.

19:30 – Opening speech

Britta Marakatt-Labba

Historjá

For half a century, Britta Marakatt-Labba (b. 1951 in Idivuoma, Sápmi) has been one of Sápmi’s most prominent artists. Using needle and thread, she creates a rich and varied visual universe. Through countless small stitches, Marakatt-Labba depicts motifs from Sámi history, religion and everyday life, seen from an Indigenous perspective and inspired by her upbringing in a reindeer-herding family.

When The Body Says Yes

The exhibition When the body says Yes, which will be shown from April 30th to October 25th 2026, presents three central video installations by Dutch artist melanie bonajo (they/them), a queer, non-binary artist known for their explorations of the body, intimacy, and social belonging in a technological age.
