What's happening

Visit our exhibitions. We offer guided tours, art workshops, talks, lectures, special tours and other events. Regular guided tours are included in the entrance fee. 

At our Tromsø location, we have a unique SKAPE Workshop that is available during opening hours. Visitors are welcome to use a range of materials and equipment for creative expression. Use of the workshop is free of charge.  

At our Bodø location, we have a presentation and event space called Festsalen. This space will host activities such as lectures, artist talks, film screenings and other workshop activities. Festsalen is also available for private events. Please contact … for further details.

Welcome to a guided tour! One of our museum guide will take you on a journey through the rich artistic legacy of the Nordland-born painter Eilert Adelsteen Normann (1848–1918). Normann was one of the first professional artists from Northern Norway and played a key role in bringing the landscapes of Norway to a European audience.

To nature

– A-FI-SA. But it might not be tomorrow

Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum is delighted to announce Maritea Dæhlin’s first major solo presentation "– A-FI-SA. But it might not be tomorrow" – in Norway and Svalbard. For her exhibition, Dæhlin has created the immersive moving image installation A-FI-SA, which takes the viewer on a meditative journey between Longyearbyen, Svalbard and San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.

Impressionist of the North

On October 4th, we opened the doors to a grand exhibition that breathes new life into one of Northern Norway’s most significant artists! Adelsteen Normann (1848–1918) was a pioneer of Norwegian landscape painting and a vital bridge between the dramatic nature of Northern Norway and the European art audience.

Mother, Sun & Ocean, VII and V years

The installation in this room was recently acquired for the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum's collection and is based on a concept by the artist, Carola Grahn. Titled "Mother, Sun and Ocean, VII and V Years", 2025, it is part of a series of artworks that follow the artist's experience of motherhood and her relationships with her children.

The Monster as Stand-In

The exhibition is based on monster representations in the collection of Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, exploring the depiction of the monstrous with a particular focus on Northern Norway and Sápmi, from a queer perspective.

Beginning in March 2026, the museum in Tromsø will host Girjegumpi, the nomadic Sámi Architecture Library, initiated by artist and architect, Joar Nango in collaboration with duodjar, researchers, authors, boatbuilders and other craftspeople.
