We’re getting ready to welcome spring! This Sunday we’ll be decorating birch twigs with feathers – a tradition that dates back centuries. Birch branches were originally used in rituals connected to fertility and the arrival of spring. In the 1800s, during Adelsteen Normann’s time, people began decorating the branches with feathers and paper.

Welcome to a guided tour! One of our museum guide will take you on a journey through the rich artistic legacy of the Nordland-born painter Eilert Adelsteen Normann (1848–1918). Normann was one of the first professional artists from Northern Norway and played a key role in bringing the landscapes of Norway to a European audience.
