ARTIST TALK & CLAY WORKSHOP
Dyalvane is one of Africa’s leading ceramic artists and is internationally acclaimed for his work. In 2024, he was invited by the municipality’s appointed art committee to create a Mandela memorial, an invitation he accepted. On Saturday, 13 June 2026, his work «iNkundla» will be unveiled in Steenparken at 12:00 PM.
Joining him from South Africa are two of his closest collaborators: Nkuthazo Alexis Dyalvane and Sisonke Papu. Nkuthazo Alexis Dyalvane is an artist, writer, and Andile’s wife, and has been actively involved in the development of «iNkundla». Sisonke Papu works with sound and breathwork and is a cultural practitioner, traditional healer, and, like Nelson Mandela, a member of the Madiba clan.
Throughout the evening at Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, visitors will gain deeper insight into Andile’s artistic practice and creative process, which he shares with Alexis and Sisonke. Together, they are dedicated to honouring the wisdom and spirituality of their ancestors and will discuss how the apartheid regime suppressed artistic and cultural expression. They will also shed light on the artistic concepts and themes behind «iNkundla».
