Artist Talk
As part of the closing programme for Historjá, we invite you to a conversation with artist and duojár Kai Mikkel Balto.

Taking the artistic practices of Britta Marakatt-Labba and Kai Mikkel Balto as its starting point, the conversation explores the intersection of duodji (traditional Sámi craft) and dáidda (Sámi contemporary art), and how tradition, materials, identity, and storytelling shape Sámi artistic expression.

The discussion will also reflect on art's role as a carrier of stories, lived experiences, and social engagement. When art becomes the strongest voice, how can it inspire reflection, bring different perspectives into view, and open conversations about culture, belonging, and resistance? Through two distinct artistic practices, we will explore how duodji and dáidda meet, challenge one another, and together offer new perspectives on Sámi art and contemporary life.

The guided tours are included with the exhibition admission ticket. All other events are free of charge.

Café Adelsteen
Café Adelsteen is open from 11:00–17:00. To celebrate the occasion, we will be serving a selection of special treats not usually found on our menu. As always, you can also enjoy the city's best waffles, freshly toasted sandwiches, and a tempting selection of sweet delights.
