Orbitals

The exhibition draws on phenomena related to outer space, satellites, and orbital movement, while remaining deeply rooted in the artist’s own experiences in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. In Orbitals, science, observation, and lived experience come together in works that explore how knowledge is created, shared, and understood.

By connecting space exploration, technology, landscape, and human experience, Orbitals opens up new ways of thinking. What do we see when we observe the Earth from a distance? And what becomes visible when we turn our gaze back toward the ground?

The exhibition moves between the monumental and the intimate, between systems that map the world and the reality experienced on site. The result is a thought-provoking meeting place between art, science, and the forces that shape how we navigate and make sense of the world.

Lena von Goedeke is a visual artist and essayist based in Svalbard and Berlin. Working across installation, text, and film, she examines how landscape, nature, and time shape the ways we understand the world. Drawing on Arctic environments, she explores geological traces, ecological connections, and the relationship between humans and nature.
