Artist talk with Linn Rebekka Åmo

In the past year, Linn has had a solo exhibition at Svolvær Kunstforening and was part of Bodø2024's programme with exhibitions in Project 67 at Beddingen and at the City Museum in Bodø. Kristoffer Dolmen, project manager for Nordnorsk kunstmuseum in Bodø, meets Linn Rebekka Åmo for a artist talk about her artistry.
About the artist
Linn Rebekka Åmo (b. 1978) is an artist who grew up and lived in Bodø and now lives in Lofoten.
She works with drawing, painting, installations and textiles. She studied mainly at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts and the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts, and actively participates in exhibitions in and outside the region and internationally.
In 2017, she received recognition for her work ‘Jeg ville nok sluppet deg inn’ (I'd probably let you in), when it was accepted for the Autumn Exhibition, which is part of the opening exhibition ‘Alt snakker. Stories in motion’ at Nordnorsk kunstmuseum in Bodø. The monumental textile artwork in bold colours is applied with visible stitching. There are elements of both energy and vulnerability in the form and colours, particularly evoked by the soft pink folds. The artwork is reminiscent of a banner, where Åmo has combined a strong, deep red-coloured square with shapes resembling both flames and leaves, and a long, draped pink silk fabric. In ‘I'd probably let you in’, Åmo attempts to actualise how historical and cultural contexts affect our understanding of belonging, and how relationships between us shape both the individual and society. The conversation will take this work as a starting point, but will also look at different parts of her production.
The exhibition ‘Everything Speaks - Stories in Motion’ shows a selection of artworks from the museum's collection from the 19th century to the present day, by artists with Northern Norwegian, Sami, Norwegian and international backgrounds. The juxtaposition of historical and more recent artworks explores current social issues and brings the collection into new and old narratives about the culturally diverse Northern Norway and the Sápmi region.
The artist talk will be held in Norwegian
