About the event
We’re getting ready to welcome spring! This Sunday we’ll be decorating birch twigs with feathers – a tradition that dates back centuries. Birch branches were originally used in rituals connected to fertility and the arrival of spring. In the 1800s, during Adelsteen Normann’s time, people began decorating the branches with feathers and paper.

Today, many associate this custom with Shrovetide and the work of Norske Kvinners Sanitetsforening.

Something happens to the colors in nature when spring arrives. Perhaps we can discover the season of Spring in Adelsteen Normann’s paintings? We’ll begin the workshop with a walk through the exhibition before heading up to the Festsalen to decorate for Spring.

The workshop is free, drop‑in, and open to both children and adults.

Café Adelsteen
The café is open all day and serves toast and the best waffles in town!

We warmly welcome you to a cozy Sunday at the museum!
