Painting with needle and thread – have you seen the work Historiaa? Welcome to a relaxing embroidery workshop at the Northern Norway Art Museum on Sunday, inspired by the art of Britta Marakatt-Labba.

In the museum café, you’ll find all the materials and tools you need, and you’re also warmly invited to bring your own embroidery projects. In addition, Melanie Bonajo’s beautiful work When the Body Says Yes provides an inspiring setting to sit down and embroider.

Britta Marakatt-Labba

For half a century, Britta Marakatt-Labba (b. 1951 in Idivuoma, Sápmi) has been one of Sápmi’s most prominent artists. Using needle and thread, she creates a rich and varied visual universe. Through countless small stitches, Marakatt-Labba depicts motifs from Sámi history, religion and everyday life, seen from an Indigenous perspective and inspired by her upbringing in a reindeer-herding family.
