About the event
Welcome to weekend guided tours at the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum in Bodø. Every Saturday and Sunday, we offer guided tours that provide insight into Sámi history through the monumental artwork "Historjá" by artist Britta Marakatt-Labba. The tours also include an introduction to "When the Body Says Yes" by Melanie Bonajo, where the artist explores the body, and intimacy in a technological age.

Britta Marakatt-Labba (b. 1951) is one of Sápmi’s most significant artists. Using needle and thread, she created Historjá — a 24-metre-long embroidery depicting motifs from Sámi history, religion, and everyday life from an Indigenous perspective. She draws inspiration from her own upbringing in a reindeer-herding family. As an artist and environmental activist, Marakatt-Labba seeks to open people’s eyes through her precise and powerful stitches.

Following the guided tour of Historjá, we offer an introduction to the exhibition When the Body Says Yes. The exhibition presents three central video installations by Melanie Bonajo (they/them), a non-binary, queer artist known for exploring the body, intimacy, and social belonging in a technological age.

The guided tour is held in English and is included with the admission ticket.

Every Sunday, our educator also invites visitors to creative workshops for both children and adults. The workshops are free of charge and open to everyone who wants to create and explore together. The workshops are drop-in from 13:00–15:00. We publish our workshops as separate events on our website, Facebook page, and in Bodø Live’s calendar.

On the first floor, you will find Café Adelsteen — a welcoming place for a break. We offer freshly brewed coffee, cold drinks, our popular crispy waffles made fresh from the waffle iron, and warm toast. The café is a relaxing place to unwind after visiting the exhibitions, before an event, or simply as a cosy meeting place.
