About the event
Welcome to weekend guided tours at Nordnorsk Art Museum in Bodø. Every Saturday and Sunday, we offer a guided tour that provides insight into Sámi history through the monumental work Historjá by artist Britta Marakatt-Labba. This is followed by an introduction to When the Body Says Yes by Melanie Bonajo, in which the artist explores the body, intimacy, and social belonging in a technological age.

Britta Marakatt-Labba (b. 1951) is one of the most influential artists from Sápmi. With needle and thread, she has created Historjá—a 24-meter-long embroidery depicting motifs from Sámi history, religion, and everyday life from an Indigenous perspective. Her inspiration stems from her own upbringing in a reindeer-herding family. As both an artist and environmental activist, Marakatt-Labba seeks to open people’s eyes through her sharp and powerful stitches.

After the guided tour of Historjá, we continue with an introduction to the exhibition When the Body Says Yes. Here, three major video installations by Melanie Bonajo (they/them) are presented. Bonajo is a non-binary, queer artist known for exploring the body, intimacy, and social belonging in a technologically mediated world.

Welcome to an open and engaging introduction to two strong and highly relevant exhibitions.

The guided tour is conducted in English and is included in the admission ticket.

Every Sunday, our educator also invites visitors to take part in creative workshops for both children and adults. The workshops are free of charge and open to anyone who wants to create and explore together. These are drop-in workshops held between 1:00–3:00 PM. Each workshop is listed as a separate event on our website, Facebook page, and in the Bodø Live calendar.

On the first floor, you will find Café Adelsteen—a cozy place for a break. We offer freshly brewed coffee, cold drinks, and our popular crispy waffles straight from the iron, as well as warm toasties.

The café is a calm place to relax after visiting the exhibitions, before an event, or simply as a welcoming meeting spot.

Welcome!
