Sámi Dáiddamusea proudly presents I Craft, I Travel Light, the museum’s first temporary exhibition, which presents handicraft from 15 Sami, Nenets, Norwegian and Russian artists who draw inspiration from the indigenous people of the High North, their rich tradition and their capacity to exploit local resources. These artists use birch bark, reindeer horn, fish skin and wood, as well as recycled materials and found objects in their artworks. The exhibition opened in Archangel in October and will travel to Murmansk in February and open in Romssa (Tromsø) on the 29th of April.

I Craft, I Travel Light addresses the value of local and sustainable resources, as well as the constant motion of life and culture. What do we bring with us when we travel, which values and expressions are conveyed, developed and continued? Questioning area ownership and the relationship between nomadic indigenous cultures and sovereign states and their borders, is a part of this picture, where physical, political and economic conditions are defining the viability of a culture.

The exhibition is displayed in collaboration with the Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts.
